Dr. Andrew Skelley was born and raised in Decatur, Illinois and is a 1994 graduate of The University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, where he met his future wife, Dr. Lisa Chassy. He spent his first three years after graduation working at a small animal clinic in central Illinois and then a large practice in downtown Knoxville. Since June 1997, he and Dr. Chassy have owned Emory Animal Hospital, where he enjoys practicing medicine and the surgery of dogs, cats, and exotic pets such as ferrets, reptiles and rodents. He and Dr. Chassy have two children, Ian and Meghan, and share their house and hearts with: Spec, an English Setter / Border Collie mix; Toby, a ginger and white DSH cat; Henry, a solid grey (blue) DSH cat. Dr. Lisa Chassy is also a 1994 graduate of the University of Illinois
College of Veterinary Medicine. She grew up in Bethesda, Maryland and
came to Knoxville with Andy in 1995. She worked for the Champaign County
Humane Society for her first year after graduation, while also working
on her MS degree in veterinary epidemiology. For two years, Lisa worked
for Dr. Linda Munson at the University of Tennessees College of
Veterinary Medicine on a zoo animal contraceptive safety project. In
addition to managing the business, Lisa enjoys working with dogs, cats
and birds. She enjoys helping educate the public about the needs of
companion animals and volunteers many hours working with pets that have
no access to medical care. She is an avid home-brewer and member
of the Tennessee Valley Homebrew
Association and enjoys long-distance running. Belinda has been at Emory since 1997. She is our office manager and works very hard at keeping the clinic running smoothly and making sure our clients, patients and staff are happy. Belinda has lived in Powell with her husband Jerry for 30 years and has two grown children, Jeremy and Melissa. She has a Yorkshire Terrier name Gizmo (who has also worked at Emory since he was a little puppy) and 2 birds. Jenny is certainly not a new staff member but a very important part of Emory Animal Hospital. Jenny is a Veterinary Technician and has lived in Knoxville all of her life. She has been at Emory for two years and has been in the veterinary field for over 10 years. She has 3 dogs and 5 cats. Her experience and pleasing personality have been a welcome addition to our staff. Holly has been an excellent addition to our staff and is superb surgical nurse. Holly received her degree as a Licensed Veterinary Technician from State University of New York at Delhi. Holly moved to Knoxville from Pennsylvania in 1999 and has been in the veterinary field since 1994. Holly has 2 cats and we are very lucky to have her education and expertise at our clinic. Jan is our new Patient Care Coordinator. Her pleasant voice and exuberant personality are what you will hear first when you call Emory Animal Hospital. Jan has lived here in Powell for 15 years and has two dogs, three cats and a cockatiel named R2. Jan has been working in the veterinary field since 1987 and says she has loved every minute of it. Chrissy is an Oak Ridge native (Go Wildcats!!) and has lived there her entire life. She is the proud owner of 12 cats and one very wonderfully understanding husband. She has two Bachelor of Science degrees from University of Tennessee, Knoxville -- one in Marketing, and one in Zoology. Chrissy has worked in the veterinary field for almost 8 years now and has been a Knoxville Zoo volunteer for 9 years. She and her husband enjoy camping, hiking and going to the beach, any beach, whenever possible. Angela began grooming at Emory in May, 2003. Her reputation as a groomer in the Powell community speaks for itself. She has been grooming in this area since 1989 and was at Emory as a temporary groomer in 1997. Many of our clients have already seen the excellent work she does on their pets. Angela, her husband Jimmy and daughter Lakin have lived in Powell for three years. She has four dogs, two kittens and a turtle. Freddy is our official laid-back 'cool cat'. He was adopted as an adult from Union County Humane Society, where he had been for several months. He won't tell us how old he is, but we suspect he is at least 6 years old. Althea is the 'queen' cat of the house - she has been at Emory for longer than anyone. She was left at the front door with kittens in a box in the early 1990's. We estimate that she is now pushing 13 years old, but like Freddy, she won't tell us for sure. Al tends to be shy and retiring, but is most frequently seen lounging in the corner of the front window. Hallie got her name because she was born around Halloween 2001. Some say it's because she is Evil Incarnate, but we know she really is sweet, she just has no social skills. Hallie came to us as a nearly dead, starving waif that would fit in the palm of your hand. Nursed back to health and then some, she is now the largest of the three cats. All three cats live full-time at Emory, and all of our pets are spayed or neutered. If everyone spayed or neutered thier pets and adopted new pets from the shelter, then the huge pet overpopulation problem would be a thing of the past and no more homeless animals would ever need to be euthanized because they have no home. |
